What is Dance/Movement Therapy?
Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) is a holistic and integrative form of psychotherapy that utilizes the transformative potential of dance and movement to promote emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration. It recognizes that the body, mind, and emotions are deeply interconnected, and that movement can be a powerful tool for exploring and transforming the deep-seated patterns that underlie psychological and physical distress.

In a DMT session, the therapist guides participants through a series of movements, exercises, and improvisations, encouraging them to explore their feelings and sensations through movement. Through the use of movement, guided imagery, music, and other expressive modalities, participants are supported in connecting with their inner selves, releasing blocked emotions, and developing a deeper sense of self-awareness and empowerment.

DMT can be practiced individually or in groups and can be tailored to meet the specific needs and goals of the participants. It is often used in conjunction with other forms of therapy and treatment to provide a comprehensive approach to healing and growth.

DMT can be used to address a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and addiction, as well as physical ailments such as chronic pain and movement disorders. By integrating the body, mind, and emotions in the healing process, DMT provides a unique and powerful approach to therapy that can transform lives and inspire lasting change.
